How do I get a friend to stop stealing?

I had a friend back in high school that used to steal from the stores around campus all the time. From grocery stores like Jewel just to steal Monster drinks and cheese sticks to Toys R Us where he'd steal anything from Mp3 players to Collectible Cards (yeah we were nerds xD) Anyway-he got caught once at Jewel and I waited with him till about 6 p.m. for his mom to come get him, and after that he claimed he learned his lesson. Problem is-I met up with him recently and he stole a pair of Ivory chopsticks from a chinese restaurant...so obviously he still steals. Is there a way I can help him stop?
