Why is my htc phone messing up?

i have an htc evo shift and recently downloaded the new software. ive been texting and everytime im in the middle of typing the message it sends me straight to the top of the conversation.. wth is going on? and i don't think there is a setting or option for that considering the fact it probably shouldn't be doing that.
